Despite missing Tom Ward and Brendan Okoronkwo Thunder cruised to a comprehensive 99 -72 victory over Barking Abbey Crusaders in their first competitive game of the season.

Thunder stormed into an 8 -0 lead and never looked back leading from tip to buzzer.

Leading by 27 – 17 at the break Thunder extended their lead to go in at the break 51 – 40

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure in the second half leading by as many as 34 points at one stage and comfort my saw the game home by a margin of27 points.

Man of the match Nick Lewis scored 32 points with Zaire Taylor and Alex Owumi adding 21 and 24 points respectively.

Thunder are bound to face a more challenging task next Sunday when they welcome Solent to Worthing Leisure Centre where the losers will almost certainly be eliminated from the Trophy competition.
