Worthing Thunder progressed to the Trophy semi-final, 89-78, in front of a large Sunday afternoon crowd, after a last quarter fight-back from local rivals, Team Solent Kestrels.
Thunder exploded into action in the first quarter; running out a 26-point start with Nick Lewis hitting 11 points with Thunder going into 26-11 lead which they never relinquished. Thunder continued to pile on pressure in the second quarter sinking baskets at will from all around the court and went into the locker room, 48-29.
Solent came out after the break determined to fight back and won the third quarter 25-19 and continued to challenge Thunder, bringing the gap back to just 7 points. Thunder’s experience in slowing the game down saw them home to an 11-point victory.
Top scorers were ‘Barkers of Tarring MVP’ Nick Lewis with 35 points, followed by Brendan Okoronkwo and Zaire Taylor; both with 11 points.
Thunder are next in action away at Hemel on 6th October, and play again at home on 13th October against Reading Rockets.
