Worthing Thunder beat BBL-side Surrey Scorchers  in an exciting BBL Trophy First Round match, 86-80. It was a third-quarter run of 21-0 which turned the match for Thunder and saw them proceed into the next round, where a home tie against London Royals or Team Wales awaits.
Thunder trailed their visitors by 7 points at the end of the first quarter and continued to match their visitors as they went into the locker room, 37-42 down. An incredible third quarter performance saw Thunder turn the game on it’s head, leading by as many as 15 points (60-45). The fourth quarter saw Scorchers gradually fight back; getting the game to within 4 points. However, roared on by their enthusiastic supporters, Thunder were not to be deprived of a famous victory and they held on to come out victorious by 6 points.
Top scorers for Thunder were Brendan Okoronkwo with 22 points, Zaire Taylor with 16, Jorge Ebanks with 14 points and Alex Owumi with 13 points.
