Worthing Thunder returned to league duty at Worthing Leisure Centre after their Christmas break and resumed their winning ways with a competitive 92-76 victory over 3rd placed Thames Valley Cavaliers. The victory sees Thunder go six points clear of their opponents and maintain the same margin against Reading Rockets who move into 3rd place.
Cavaliers started the first quarter the stronger of the two teams and finished at the break 3 points up (23-20). Thunder’s second quarter performance set up the victory after a 29-17 quarter and the home team went into the locker room 49-40 up. Thunder never looked back for the remainder of the game and despite some good attacking play from the visitors, the home team finished the match comfortable winners by 16 points.
Brendan Okoronkwo (Barkers of Tarring Man of the Match) scored 27 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. He was well supported by Jorge Ebanks with 18 points and 8 assists, Zaire Taylor with 16 points and Alex Owumi with 15 points.
The victory keeps Thunder in the hunt for the Championship title; remaining in second place just 2 points behind Team Solent Kestrels. Thunder’s next home game is 19th January 2019 against London City Royals in the BBL Trophy quarter final, tip off 7:30pm.
Next weekend Thunder are in action again at third-placed Reading Rockets on 13th January, tip off 5pm.
