Thunder travelled to Essex for their second game in under 24 hours, hoping for an easier task than the night before. As it turned out, their hopes were fulfilled as we came away with a comprehensive victory; eventually running out victors by 86-70.
Thunder made the running from the start, playing a fast moving style of play with Jorge, Alex and Brendan opening up the Barking defence with ease. At the first break we led by 8 points (22-14).
The second quarter began with both teams making baskets but with just under 3 minutes of the half remaining, Thunder made the match-winning run; pouring in 15 unanswered points to stretch the lead to 24 (53-29). Zaire was showing up after not starting the game by hitting from long range to good effect. As the half went on, Thunder eased into the lead they would not relinquish.
Thunder took their feet off the accelerator in the third period as we realised that it was nearly job-done and the effects of the night before began to kick in. Barking took the period by 9 points, but Thunder were still in command. The quarter ended with Thunder up by 15 points (65-50).
The final session saw Thunder step up and control the tempo of the match. Alex was strong as he commanded the floor for Thunder and it looked as if Jorge, Zaire and Brendan could score at will. Barking rallied late on, but at the end it was a comfortable win to keep Thunder at the top of the table.
SCORERS – Alex 26 points (7 rebounds), Zaire 22 points (5 three pointers), Jorge 13 points, Brendan 12 points, Ishmael 8 points, Josh 3 points and Kevin 2 points.
