In front of a large home crowd, Manchester Magic began well by taking an early lead, however Thunder quickly got into gear. playing some of the best basketball seen at the Thunderdome. Hitting threes at will in a high scoring first quarter, the home side led 30-22 at the break.
The pressure on Manchester continued as Thunder persisted with the long range shots. Alex Owumi was on fire from downtown as it was beginning to become very one-sided. At the halfway stage, Thunder had built a big lead (70-41) and things were looking very comfortable.
The second half continued in a similar vein; Thunder playing fast, exciting basketball with the Manchester team struggling to defend against a strong Thunder. A mammoth score was building as Thunder were over the 100-point mark after just three quarters (108-63). Alex Owumi was hitting from long range regularly, on his way to a season high 36 points and with the rest of the team all having a stellar game, this was a Thunder masterclass!
With only one steal away from a quadruple-double, it was Zaire Taylor who was awarded the Barkers Tarring MVP. As time ran out the Thunder had poured in 149 points; again a record score for Thunder, to win the first of the two weekend games (149-91). Thunder’s crowd were ecstatic as they now look forward to the first of the play-off games at the Thunderdome on the 6th April 2019.
